MM x NIKE FLYKNIT x ERNESTO NETO workshop

Us MM gals were lucky enough to be treated to a morning of inspiration and innovation thanks to Nike and legendary Brazilian contemporary visual artist Ernesto Neto. You would necessarily put trainers and sculpture and mummy-hood together but these three things all need simple components – strength and flexibility. We were treated to an insight into exactly how Flyknit trainers are developed and put together and how this influenced Neto’s installation at the 1948 studios using rope and balls. He then revealed that his sculpture inspired by mums and motherhood and then it was our turn to be inspired by him. The installations were first road tested of course by the bubbas with who either bounced or lay or chewed at them as best they could to give them their approval. The mums then joined in for some yoga using the sculptures to stretch out those tired limbs and post-pregnancy aches and pains. It was a beautiful morning of ideas exchange, of inspiration, of gentle exercise and of course the usual baby babble and chatter. A smoothie and a banana later we were back out into a balmy east London day feeling a little more strong and flexible than when we arrived.
